Letras.mus.br, 2013
Back in 2013, streaming music was still a new concept. Spotify and similar platforms were not yet big enough to be a dominant force in the market. The challenge was to design an app that would be easy to use and easy to navigate while still being a music player.
Responsible for User Interface and User Experience.
Back in 2013, I worked for Letras.mus.br. A big brazillian music lyrics platform. The website is a big directory for, frankly, most of the lyrics people listen to in Brazil. Most of its content is uploaded by the users of the platorm and curated by them and an internal team of moderators.
The company wanted to fill a market gap and I was tasked to make an app that needed to be seen as a replacement for the, back then, default music app for people's phones. Spotify was not yet a dominant force in the market and people still did the caveman thing and manually uploaded music to their devices.
I was taked with the challenge of making a product that needed to be better than the current default music app so it would give people a reason to swap from the default solution to this new one.
Based on the technology we had available, and the services the product provided, the proposal was a music player app that read the user's library and synced with the website's database to provide lyrics for people's songs.
The website is also widely known for curating good and relevant playlists based on the population's taste and current events. So, we decided to, somehow, put that feature inside the app as well.
